Pitti Uomo: 24,300 buyers. Recovery signs from Russia, Turkey is still absent

The organisers of Pitti Uomo had already summed up the key figures that characterised this 2017 edition. The attendance is of 24,300 buyers (in line with January 2016) from 100 Countries and more than 30,000 visitors. Among them, there has been a renewed presence of Russians, while there has been a decline in attendance from Turkey. Germany, Japan, UK, France, Spain, the Netherlands, China and United States are back to the top of the league in attendance. A slight increase in the arrivals from East Europe and the North, while there were also new comers from until now untapped markets such as Canada, Israel and South Africa. Stable presences also from South Korea and Hong Kong while there were defections from Ireland, India, Mexico and the United Arab Emirates. The attendance of Italian buyers has declined: -3.5%. “Another reason to sign off this edition as a success was the thorough work done by the police to ensure the smooth running of the event”, said Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine.” He referred to the bomb alarm triggered by an abandoned briefcase at the Fortezza da Basso, blasted by the state police bomb squad, lately reported as being just full of paper. “In these circumstances, even small oversights on the part of some visitor become the reason of an intensification in the controls done by the police control continued Napoleone. That’s exactly what has happened, but it all worked out in relatively short time. I repeat: there was no alarm and no risk, just someone who got distracted.”
