Simac Tanning Tech Kicks Off: Exports Look to Mercosur and Africa

Simac Tanning Tech kicks off on Tuesday, September 15, and runs through Thursday, September 17. The 52nd edition of the leading international trade fair for machinery, technologies and solutions for the footwear, leather goods and tanning industries is about to begin. Organised by Assomac, the Confindustria association representing Italian companies in the sector, the annual event will take place alongside Lineapelle, from September 15 to 17 at Fiera Milano Rho. It will host 290 exhibitors and brands, 30% of them international, from more than 20 countries.

Simac Tanning Tech kicks off

Simac Tanning Tech opens at a particularly challenging time for the industry. From January to May this year, exports fell by 9.8% compared with the same period in 2025. According to figures released by Assomac, the European market is proving more resilient than Asia, which remains weak. The picture across the Americas is mixed, while exports of tannery machinery to Africa are growing.

The trade fair will welcome more than 200 international visitors, including 130 members of official delegations from 26 countries, with the support of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ICE – Italian Trade Agency. The focus of this 52nd edition is on Latin America, also in light of the Mercosur agreement. The event also aims to strengthen cooperation in Africa through Robbiki Leather City. Simac Tanning Tech will be divided into six thematic areas: three dedicated to footwear and leather goods and three to tanning.

Bergozza’s view

“The buyer visiting Simac Tanning Tech is a decision-maker called upon to assess investments that are crucial to the future of their company. For this reason, the trade fair experience is designed to facilitate purchasing decisions and help identify the technological solutions best suited to creating value,” says Mauro Bergozza, President of Assomac.

According to Bergozza, Simac Tanning Tech’s international dimension plays a strategic role for Italy’s industrial system, helping to strengthen industrial partnerships and create growth opportunities for companies in the sector. “Simac’s role is to be an industrial platform capable of connecting technology, expertise and markets,” Bergozza concludes.
