From online success to brick and mortar: the case of Portuguese shoes Undandy

Undandy, a start-up company that since 2015 sells tailored shoes through an online store, has announced that it will build its production plant in São João da Madeira to respond to the sharp increase in orders registered in the past months. The Undandy site offers 156 million combinations of materials, shapes and colours that the user can choose to make a pair of unique shoes. The price varies from 145 to 220 euros. The structural investment announced by Undandy is about one million euros. The goal is to start construction in September, hire 25 people and produce 200 pairs of shoes a day by the end of this year. Rafic Daud, CEO of Undandy, told the Dinheiro Vivo online headline. Until its production comes into effect, Undandy will continue to produce shoes in another São João da Madeira unit run in conjunction with another brand. Undandy sells in over 60 countries including Pakistan and Israel. Over 99% of sales are made abroad.
