Clayton Leather group gets through crisis after multiple (re)acquisitions: former manager buys out the company thanks to a newco

Peter Bird has bought out Clayton & Sons again. The news has been reported by British press media: allegedly, Bird, former manager of the company headquartered in Chesterfield, carried out a big buyout project. Last 20 September, the top management of Clayton & Sons, which belongs to Clayton Leather historic group, appointed Emily Ball and John Lowe as administrating managers to revamp the brand after a business slowdown: in fact, revenues had decreased “owing to the declining number of deliveries and clients”, as pointed out by the company representatives. In addition, the company had reportedly announced 26 redundancy positions. According to Drapers, a British fashion website, the company has been revamped thanks to the creation of the Spire Leather Company brand, which subsequently bought out Clayton & Sons assets and finally appointed Peter Bird as general manager. Talking about the crisis the group is facing, at the end of October a group of three companies (two British and one German), playing in the leather industry, took over J & E Sedgwick. As reported by ILM, the joint venture aims to foster and strengthen again the tannery productivity while integrating it in their own manufacturing industry.
