Della Valle's triangle: Arnault loves Tod's and he loves leather

Arnault loves Tod ‘s and Diego Della Valle (pictured, Imagoeconomia) loves leather. These are the cornerstones of L Catterton‘s takeover bid that will lead to the delisting of the Casette d’Ete-based group. Because the love of leather has led the Della Valle family not only to success, but to beautiful and well-made products, attracting the Arnault family, to which the LVMH group and the L Catterton holding company belong.

Arnault loves Tod’s

“The L Catterton fund loves us”, Della Valle told Corriere della Sera. “Above all, their boss and his team are a bit in love with our brands. So, they allowed us to quickly do operations that usually take a long time. Bernard Arnault? And an entrepreneur who deserves everything he gets, he is a very serious person”. The takeover bid implies an exit from the stock market. “We cannot stop to follow the demands of the market, which every three months wants to know what you are doing”, observes the Marche entrepreneur.

“When it is time to return (to the stock market ed.), you return. In a couple of years, we will have a consolidated group in the world with brands that are all strong. Because today, managing more than one brand is more inconvenient than managing just one. And it is also much more expensive. But if you do it right, you have a huge asset”.

Strategies go through accessories

“In clothing, we want to do a few things, but recognisable. It’s a bit of a policy we also have in all accessories”, adds Della Valle to MFF. “Today you have to have a standing. There must be some presence of the main raw material, which for us is leather. With bags we are doing a very successful operation. I believe that today we only have a space if we are specialists in something. For us it is the world of leather, where we think we really know a lot”.

Innovations

Tod’s innovates from the point of view of materials and family generations. Let’s start with the former. “We are studying a patented material, it is called Pashmy, a sort of cashmere made of leather”, Della Valle reveals. “It will be in shops in June, it’s a masterpiece. No one in the leather world has ever thought of making a material that, if you close your eyes, looks like the best quality cashmere”. On the subject of the family, however, he adds: “My son Filippo and my nephew Leonardo entered the company with great humility. I think they have the numbers, of course after many lessons and a lot of teaching by our managers”.
