Moscow renews “temporary” stop of wet blue exports

In 2014, after the sanctions imposed by the international community, Moscow imposed a “temporary” blockade of wet blue exports – for a six-month renewable term – adding it to the bill on foreign national raw leather sales (500 euro per ton). The blockade, while being “temporary”, was extended until April 5, 2018. The decree, signed by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, is justified by the need not to export the raw material and “to stimulate the development of domestic footwear production and leather “. The renewal of the block on wet blue follows recent news that the government is considering introducing a duty on imports of low-cost shoes from China.
