Acquisitions in the meat industry: Minerva buys 16 slaughterhouses from Marfrig

An operation that makes everyone happy: one is making the purchase and strengthening its raw materials’ chain and commodities, and one sells to focus more on its own brand to commercialize finished products with higher value. Minerva bought 16 slaughterhouses from Marfrig for about 7.5 billion real (or 1.42 billion euro). According to Brazilian news sources, 1.5 are already paid, while the remaining 6 billion will be paid out once regulatory authorities will have authorized the operation. Minerva has a guaranteed credit line with JP Morgan for 18 months.

The investment brings Minerva’s production capacity to 13,000 bovine and 6,500 ovine units per day: +40% on the current capacity. The deal, while costly, is expected to be profitable, given that among the 16 are many authorized to export in China, one of the richest marketplaces for the sale of bovine meat. According to estimates, the acquisition will bring Minerva’s revenue up by 18 billion real (3.4 billion euro).
