Assocalzaturifici Assembly: the future of the Italian shoe is in foreign markets

The indicators to be considered are two. The first consists of the eighth consecutive year of contraction in domestic demand: while in Italy in 2008 186 million pairs of shoes were sold, in 2015 they were 156 million. On the other side, the good trend for exports that, despite some negative markets (France -3.2% in value and -9% in quantity, CSI area -30% in the past two years), last year grew by 3, 2%, with the new historical record of 8.65 billion. For this reason Annarita Pilotti, President of Assocalzaturifici, during the annual meeting held yesterday (in Arese, at the Alfa Romeo Museum), addressed international free trade agreements as relevant parts in her speech. In order to overcome today’s period of uncertainty (“For our sector the economical recovery that is being talked about is still a mirage”, her words), we need an agreement with the US by using TTIP, as well as the elimination of duties in Japan, while ensuring consistent protection of “made in Italy”. Meanwhile, regarding the fairs’ section of our sector, Assocalzaturifici announces the approach of Micam and the fashion week in Milan.
