The leather discarded by shoe factories in Marche becomes a carpet and a pillow. These are some of the accessories presented within Trame a project by eMOTIVI, a startup based in Civitanova Marche that makes furnishings with leather scraps. The company, which has been active for only a year, is made up of 6 people (4 women and 2 men): three architects, an engineer and two sales and marketing managers. All of them from Marche. Trame, which won the 2016/2017 edition of the Ecapital – Business Plan Competition, landed at Fuorisalone in Milan (at Fabbrica del Vapore), within the space curated by Reborn Ideas, the first e-commerce of products made in Italy through upcycling, recycling and creative recovery with sustainable and innovative materials. eMOTIVI exhibits Diego Il Tappeto (Diego the Carpet) and Tonino Il Cuscino (Tonino the Pillow), entirely made with leather waste. “We have chosen personal names because we believe that people really make the difference. And our products tell the story of each of them, together with that of the territory that saw them being born”, say the founders of eMOTIVI. “The supply of leather? It was not difficult to create connections with the local shearings that put aside the scraps of suede. After collecting them, we select them and catalog them by colour and size. Sometimes the inspirations come from having the waste in our hands, other times it is the leather that is adapted to our collections. Then we cut the leather base on which the work is done and the pieces that need to be sewn together. Subsequently, all the material is delivered to the hemmer which, with a drawing and indications in hand, sew the individual pieces together”. 2018 was a creative year of experimentation, prototyping and production for eMOTIVI that has recently started to present itself on the market, first with the online channel and in the upcoming months will also be present offline. The company also produces bags, tassels or fringes for shoes. eMOTIVI startup was one of the circular experiences presented at Fieramilano Rho last February, during the workshop “The circularity of Italian leather – 360° Sustainability” organized by UNIC – Italian Tanneries in collaboration with Confindustria and Lineapelle.
