ICEC’s activities are expanding, along with its membership and turnover. The General Assembly and Board of Directors meeting held on 27 May painted a picture of a healthy organisation with clear objectives for broadening its scope and action plan. In the early part of 2025 alone, four new members have joined: Po.Te.Co., Confindustria Moda Accessori, the Leather Arbitration Chamber, and the Milano Fashion Institute. The new appointments to the Board of Directors reflect the widening network of partners and stakeholders of the leading certification body in the international leather supply chain.
ICEC financial overview
ICEC took stock of 2024, showing positive results across all key indicators. The number of certified companies increased by 7%, and the number of certificates issued rose by 4%. Continuing a long-standing positive trend, turnover also grew by 10.3%. While ICEC’s core operations are based in Italy, its international presence includes the USA, Spain, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Turkey, and Serbia.
New appointments
New additions to the Board of Directors include Giovanna Ceolini, a footwear entrepreneur from Lombardy and President of Confindustria Moda Accessori, who takes on the role of President. Laura Vantin, part of the management team at Chimica Vemar and a board member of UNPAC, joins as Vice President. Also sitting on the Board are Fulvia Bacchi (UNIC – Italian Tanneries), Matteo Scarparo (Assocalzaturifici), and Elena Salvaneschi (AIP), alongside Carlo Briccola (Assopellettieri), Gionata Moroni (ASSA), and Agostino Apolito (Assomac). The outgoing president Paola Arosio (CNMI), Edoardo Imperiale (SSIP), and Alfredo Cassano (CNR) complete the board.
New CSI members appointed
The 27 May assembly (pictured) also served as the occasion to renew the Committee for the Safeguarding of Impartiality (CSI). The presidency has passed to Carlo Brondi, a senior researcher at the STIIMA Institute of the CNR, specialising in industrial sustainability, life cycle assessment (LCA), and circular economy. Other committee members include Claudio Brizzi Regoli (Leather Arbitration Chamber), Gianluigi Calvanese (SSIP), Marco Piccolini (Assocalzaturifici), and Federica Bevilacqua (Assopellettieri), as well as Angelika Duckenfield (AQC), Ciro Bruno (UNIC), and Leonardo Traversi (Ponte a Egola Tanners Consortium). Rounding out the committee are Renato Bertoli (Veneto Leather District), Andrea Favazzi (Assomac), and Alessandro Cafiero (AICQ).
Reasons for satisfaction
“I’m particularly pleased”, commented Sabrina Frontini, Director of ICEC. “These results come at a time when the sector is facing challenging market conditions, and when competition in the voluntary certification space is growing. They show that we are on the right path and doing a good job”.
