The host country, in one case, and the program in the other. The two events, respectively the 2027 edition of UITIC and the 2026 edition of the Sustainable Leather Forum in Paris, have different time horizons and will therefore have different maturity stages. But the first few previews are emerging of what awaits the leather community audience that will want to attend. These are well-established moments of technical-scientific insight and sharing.
The first few previews of UITIC
For UITIC, the congress of the International Union of Shoe Industry Technicians, the appointment is from August 2 to 4, 2027. The organizers announce that the edition, the 23rd in its history, will be held in Jakarta (Indonesia) in collaboration with KRISTA Exhibition and with the support of APRISINDO (the Indonesian footwear industry association). “The choice of Indonesia reflects UITIC’s commitment”, comments president Sergio Dulio, “to fostering an increasingly up-to-date exchange on trends, developments in design and processes for shoe production. Dialogue between industrial cultures, cross-fertilization and access to best practices are decisive factors”. To learn the theme, program and participation methods, however, we will still have to wait.
The next SLF
This appointment is on September 7 at the Maison de la Chimie in Paris for the eighth edition of the Sustainable Leather Forum, the event dedicated to corporate social responsibility organized by Alliance France Cuir with CTC (the program can be found online). The day’s panels involve entrepreneurs, brands, associations, scholars and experts. Discussions will focus on geopolitics, inevitably, as well as international prospects and regulations, but the event will also be an opportunity to present the report on French public awareness of the sustainability of the sector’s supply chain. Andrée-Anne Alemieux of the Institut Français de la Mode will instead be tasked with answering the question: will the world still love leather tomorrow?
