Tod’s is getting ahead of EU regulation by launching a Digital Product Passport (DPP) for selected footwear models from the Gommino line. The passport provides information on each item’s materials, production processes, production locations, and certifications. The DPP was developed using technology from Renoon and relies on the security of the Aura Blockchain Consortium ecosystem, of which Tod’s has been a member since 2023.
Tod’s digital passport
Tod’s is among the first luxury brands to develop a DPP ahead of the European regulatory framework: the ESPR delegated act is expected between late 2026 and early 2027. This is the European Commission measure that will set the technical rules, ecodesign parameters, and Digital Product Passport obligations for specific product categories, implementing EU Regulation 2024/1781. In preparation, Tod’s is defining its data architecture and adapting the framework to its own supply chain. “This specific requirements for the footwear sector will come into force later”, the company writes in a statement shared with La Conceria. “Making this initiative a strategic choice rather than a response to a compliance obligation”.
The technological infrastructure
This passport, available from September 1, was developed using Renoon’s technology. The partner structures product and supply-chain data and verifies consistency between Tod’s internal systems and those of its partners. The DPP, which will be extended to new product categories, makes data and documentation available directly on the product page. The authenticity and immutability of the data are guaranteed by blockchain infrastructure from Aura Blockchain Consortium.
“With our DPP, we bring verified product information directly into the customer experience, making the story and the people behind each product more transparent and accessible”, says Carlo Alberto Beretta, general brand manager of Tod’s. “Together with Renoon and Aura Consortium, we are building a digital ecosystem that combines our artisanal tradition with the future of luxury”.
