In 2017 first term leather business is booming: footwear, leather goods and upholstery go up

Despite a few difficulties in the early months of the year, in the first term Italian footwear goes up again (+2%). Trend is positive (+5%) in the Euro zone thanks to footwear good performances in Germany and Poland; bad news for Great Britain though (-5%). Manufacturing grows in Brazil (+16%), Turkey (+5%) and Asia, except for China (-3%) and Pakistan (-5%). Such data about leather business markets are provided by Lineapelle’s Economic Department. Likewise in the first half of the year trend is positive for leather goods, which take off in Italy (+20%). In Europe leather goods (+12%) benefit from double figure growth in England, Poland and Spain, though France slows down (-1%). As for Italian and European upholstery, they both increase (+6% and +3% respectively), as much as the automotive sector: compared to 2016, European registrations have increased by 5%. Conversely apparel is still limping along: Italian clothiers’turnover goes down (-2%), and in the same term the main European and non-European manufacturers lose ground. Except for Vietnam.
