Paris Fashion Week: from Balenciaga to Yohji Yamamoto, Dries Van Noten to Rick Owens, leather is the queen of the catwalk

Colourful Biker Jackets for Yohji Yamamoto; oversized cowboy-style jackets and leather patchwork jeans for Balenciaga; Long trenches for Dries Van Noten; Soft trousers for Rick Owens’s conceptual fashion. Paris Fashion Week, concluded yesterday in Paris, saw leather as an essential element for the Spring / Summer 2018 collections. Emerging designers followed the trend. Alexandre Mattiussi in his Ami collection combined short jackets and shorts in shiny leather. Boris Bidjan Saberi, a German-Persian designer, presented a line inspired by the desert in sandy, green, and brown-green deserted leather backpacks. Leather was also the protagonist of Louis Vuitton’s two-colored monograms, shopping bags folding like envelopes and rigid bundles. Valentino, designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, followed the trend with his shoulder handbags, large handbags and sports backpacks that recalled 80’s activewear.
