2016 US slaughtering activity registered a + 6% of adult males. 2017 started with a positive trend

With more than 30 million cattle conferred, 2016’s budget of the US slaughter closes in positive with an increase of 6% on the previous year. According to data of the Foreign Agricultural Service of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA-FAS), adult males are the category that records the best performance: with 17 million culls, growth was 8%. In the wake also positive cows (13 million, i.e., + 5% yoy) and calves, which despite being a product minority (less than 500,000 animals slaughtered), showed a significant 7%. For 2016 that closes well, there’s a 2017 opening better. In January, the reports speak of up 8% abatement of adult male cattle and 10% of females. The trend should be confirmed, according to preliminary data available, also for February (+ 2%).
