US shopping malls apocalypse. Credit Suisse: will close 8,500 stores in 2017

According to Credit Suisse’s report, the future of shopping malls in the US is in danger. A quarter of them will no longer be in 2022. The blame is on e-commerce and low-cost stores that threaten stores in the malls. Since the beginning of this year, in fact, there are already over 3,600 shops closure in malls. Credit Suisse expects another 8.500 by the end of 2017. It would only be the beginning because, according to the Credit Suisse study, within five years a share of 20 to 25% of the shopping centres currently operating in the United States Will no longer exist. It means they will close between 220 and 275 centres. Credit Suisse predicts that clothing sales will continue to move towards e-commerce: in 2030 online e-commerce will account for 37% of total clothing sales against the current 17%.
