Overview Effect: the presentations of Lineapelle’s Fashion Committee

Changing one’s point of view to surprise and be surprised. This is the message of the new Spring/Summer 2027 trends, which the Lineapelle Fashion Committee has summed up under the title “Overview Effect”. The definition recalls the astronauts’ view of Earth from above, and also references Orbital, the novel by Samantha Harvey, in which a group of astronauts from different backgrounds discuss the meaning of perfection as they observe the world from space. According to Antonella Bertagnin, coordinator of the Lineapelle Fashion Committee, “For us, it’s a starting point for discussing a shift in perspective. It’s an umbrella concept, a container that captures the sense of novelty in the air”.

The Overview Effect presentations

The Overview Effect trend presentations by the Lineapelle Fashion Committee have just begun their tour. After the first stops in Arzignano and Santa Croce sull’Arno (on 29 and 30 October, respectively), the next appointments will take place on 3 November at 4:30 p.m. at Officina Chimica in Movimento in Solofra, and on 6 November at 4:30 p.m. at the Hotel Horizon in Montegranaro (Fermo). These meetings are moments of reflection, providing an opportunity to examine the current state of fashion with a discerning eye and to imagine its future with a conscious and forward-looking vision.

Archive and beyond

The Lineapelle Fashion Committee also reflected on the latest haute couture shows, highlighting the strong return to origins embraced by many fashion houses. Bertagnin noted that “We’ve seen it at Chanel, Balenciaga, Versace. The archive is revisited through the spirit of what has already been done, yet with a new twist. History becomes a living memory, something to be handled and reinterpreted. There’s a fresh perspective that makes the archives feel current and surprising”. Even colour research, the Committee points out, follows a new conceptual approach, “free from habit and with great attention to materials”. The colours chosen for the Trend Book bear evocative neologisms that represent transformation and hybrid evolution. A poetic source of inspiration that sparks imagination and invites new associations, leaving nothing to be assumed. “Neologisms that surprise, because that’s what we need: to be surprised”.

Material research

Bertagnin added, “The same applies to materials: there’s a need for wonder”. From a technical perspective, new possibilities are emerging, such as vegetalised materials. The spirit of experimentation remains essential, even when working with basics. “You have to dare a little. The presentation was structured almost in reverse: it began with the points of change and moved towards the basics”. The so-called “supernaturals” return — materials with controlled shine, refined thicknesses, and original textures. “Brands are seeking materials that are as bare as possible, clean and natural”.

In the world of textiles, “there’s a wave of washed and multi-step finishes, where the final effect isn’t rustic”, explained Marta Vidussi of the Fashion Committee. “The season confirms the presence of naturals, but the fibres are becoming very sophisticated”. As for accessories, despite rising raw material costs, they remain key protagonists, both in glossy finishes and in those with a slightly vintage allure. Brass continues to feature prominently. “We’ll see many semi-matte finishes, and unlike in previous seasons, silver is starting to find its place alongside gold”, Vidussi continued. “Studs are making a comeback, after having been understated for a while, along with a range of metal treatments, now used extensively even in footwear”.
