WWD makes a bet: Walter Chiapponi will leave Tod’s in September

Walter Chiapponi will leave Tod’s in September? According to rumors, Tod’s’ creative director (admiral brand of Italian luxury group Tod’s), will leave the enterprise after the presentation of the women’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection. Chiapponi was hired by the Della Valle family in October 2019, just before the pandemic. His work supported the growth of the brand that, in the first quarter of 2023, grew sales by 24.4% compared to the same period of 2022.

Walter Chiapponi will leave Tod’s?

According to WWD, which cites anonymous sources, Walter Chiapponi (in photo) is destined to leave his post at the end of September, meaning right after the fashion show for the Spring-Summer 2024 collection, which will be held in Milan. The nomination represents a turning point for Tod’s, because the brand hadn’t had a creative director for women’s collections after the departure of Alessandra Facchinetti in 2016. Moreover, at the end of June 2019, it also didn’t have a creative director for the men’s lines after Andrea Incontri left.

Tod’s good moment

The news come at a positive moment for the brand and group. In the first quarter of 2023, revenue reached 270.5 million euro, up 23.2% on the same period of 2022. For the brand Tod’s, the increment was 24.4%. Diego Della Valle, during the presentation of the quarterly data, added that sales in April were solid. He also said that the trend for orders of winter collections were “great”.
