Bangladesh: Collapse of a tannery roof injures five

There would be no external factor to cause the collapse of the ceiling of one of the tanneries in the district of Savar, Bangladesh. At the moment of failure, two workers were working to reinforce the cover, about 6 meters high. According to the local press, last January, 18, Fire brigade were engaged for hours to retrieve the remains of the five workers, subsequently transported to hospitals in the area. In the meanwhile, further investigations were carried out to verify that there were no other persons to rescue after in the collapse. If the aim is to give the leather area of Bangladesh an industrial site that meets current standards of sustainability and security, the design of the Savar district is beyond the scope. Eyewitnesses said that the tanneries located in the location spin the drums even if the network for the water treatment is not yet completed. The move from the old and polluted Hazaribagh district is still far from completion.
