Record-breaking 2025 for Australian meat: process units up 8.6%

A record-breaking 2025 is expected for Australian meat. Driven by international demand, where it has been able to fill the space left vacant by competitors such as the U.S. and Brazil, the country’s livestock industry is increasing the number of units processed by 8.6% year-on-year, processing a total of more than 9 million.

Australia’s record-breaking meat 2025

According to estimates by trade association Meat & Livestock Australia, the average weight of processed animals is stable, despite the prevalence of female animals. As a result, the annual balance sheet is on track to meet the record level of 2.79 million tons of bovine meat (1.5 of which is for export). Despite the surge in production, M&LA expects the cattle herd to remain stable at 31 million head in the year, a quota at which it will also stand in 2026. In 2027, however, herds’ numbers are estimated to decline.
