Commitment to traceability and fight against forgery: Spain’s Cotance Assembly and Board of Directors

On June 9, at Igualada (Spain) it took place the general assembly and board of directors of Cotance, the European federation of national tanning associations. Within these two events, there were greetings to the new member country, Hungary. The 2016 Budget and the point of the activities, present and future, supported by the Association. One of the topics of debate was the labelling of leather authenticity in the European Union. Cotance, who presented a document to the EC Growth DG and held a hearing on false and counterfeiting of the European Economic and Social Committee, adopted a statement. The Federation, at the same time, has decided to take legal action against the self-styled Wine Leather, fabric made from waste products produced by “leather”.
