The Italian leather bag used by DiCaprio in Don’t Look Up

Let’s put it this way: those trying to save the world from an imminent catastrophe use a leather bag. Italian leather, made in Bassano del Grappa by Finco 1865 tannery. This article has to do with Don’t Look Up, movie that was recently added on Netflix, and which has already become – explains Wikipedia -, one of the most-watched movies on the platform, and the most-watched in Italy”. And in the movie, the leather bag never leaves the side of astronomer Randall Mindy, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.

With no spoilers, we do share with our readers that Mitty/DiCaprio is undoubtedly the most “human” character of the movie (even with all his contradictions). And so, he tries to save the planet from an imminent catastrophe together with his student Kate Dibiasky, played by Jennifer Lawrence. “This leather bag is always with the astronomer during the movie, as shown by the picture. The bag is made by a “US brand that began manufacturing in 1933 making saddles and the natural handbags were the entity’s reaction to the crisis in 1929”, explained Bernardo Fico.

The message carried by leather

“It’s very interesting to see – continues Finco -, that the character played by DiCaprio, which is a serious and well-studied professor, chose to use a leather bag. It’s a classic one, a oiled full-grain that is clearly identifiable as a natural product. Within the movie’s context, which is full of symbolism and messages, it’s a great thing that the professor carries the leather bag with him at all times. It’s almost part of his defense: the symbol of a person that is coherent and down to earth”. Don’t look up, look leather.
