New romanticism wears leather. Celine Homme f-w 21/22 collection speaks to young contemporaries through gothic atmospheres and strong references to Renaissance iconography. Leather is everywhere. There are many variations of jackets, vests and bombers, built with mainly black leathers. The protagonists of the presentation entitled “Teen Knight Poeme” – a short film set in the Château de Chambord in the Loire – are young teenage knights. They mix the Gothic aesthetics of the medieval age, the 90s and punk style.
The new romanticism
Creative director Hedi Slimane has chosen to present his proposal for autumn-winter 21/22 with a neo-romantic narrative and a lot of leather. Celine Homme wardrobe is made of overlays that adapt to young people silhouettes: leather jackets, vests and bomber jackets over sweatshirts, denim and wool sweaters. Slimane’s passion for minerals and gemstones resulted in opulent embroidery. Small and large chains and metal mesh, like those of knights (handmade in the Parisian ateliers), are applied on a leather bomber or sleeveless jackets. The study of the palette takes up the colours of the time, in particular the court and ceremonial dresses of the sixteenth century: black, brown, with accents of gold and silver.
Leather jacket
Leather jackets are offered in various types: total black with metal inserts or/and encrustations of semi-precious stones, multi zips, coloured patchwork, or black and white (both with coloured bands on the arms, in various patterns and embroideries). In addition to outerwear, leather is also found in leggings and trousers, as well as in footwear. Black or burgundy lace-up shoes with black & white checkered soles, black leather ankle boots with a bit of a Texan heel, fluffy fur moon boots and light brown boots.
