Uruguayan tanning industry is very close to stop as industrialists claim protectionism

Tanning industry in Uruguay is close to stop forever. Over the last 10 years Uruguayan tanneries lost 67% of their employees, while there are just 6 companies currently working. Such companies are facing tough times indeed: in 5 tanneries out of 6 manufacturing has been dropping. In addition to that, workers are not provided with any public financial support with regard to their wages. Such is the situation of Uruguayan tanning industry that came to light during the meeting between industrialists and Uruguayan government, as reported by Leatherbiz. By and large entrepreneurs are claiming some protectionism to get their way out of the current crisis. In their opinion, the gist of the problem is the amount of tanning raw material exported before being finished: in fact, they consider it too high.
