Designskolen Kolding and Lineapelle reinvent working with leather

Following the success of the first edition, the educational-creative workshop (Hi)story / (Re)source / Project(ed) returns. In other words, the result of a collaboration between Designskolen Kolding and Lineapelle, which reinvents opera with leather. From November 17 to December 20, 2025, students from the Fashion, Accessories, and Textiles courses will be asked to reinterpret the costumes of an opera from the past. Italian leather, with its tradition of craftsmanship and sustainable value, will once again take center stage in a journey that combines historical research, innovation, and creativity. The best projects will be exhibited at the next edition of Lineapelle, scheduled to take place in Milan from February 11 to 13, 2026.

Rethinking opera with leather

The new course is led by Silvano ArnoldoChristine Jeanneret, and Brad Carlton Sisk together with teachers from the Danish institute. And  invites students to reinterpret, reinvent, and reimagine Baroque costumes using contemporary language. The interdisciplinary approach blends aesthetics, technology, and storytelling, transforming leather into a tool for stage design and characterization. Historical research on haute couture and philosophical reflection on theatrical representation thus become the driving forces behind a design that does not merely reference the past, but transforms it into a vision of the future.

Leather as heritage and future

Lineapelle provides exclusive materials and craftsmanship know-how, offering students the opportunity to work with resources that would otherwise be inaccessible. Leather, a symbol of circularity and sustainability, becomes the focus of the project, enhancing details and stage constructions. The Kolding School of Design provides workshops, tools, and technologies, creating fertile ground for high-level experimentation. The goal is to train new generations capable of combining tradition and innovation, transforming theatrical costume into a manifesto of creativity and responsibility.
