Here are the finalists of World Leather Contest: don’t miss it

The time to share and vote (later on, as we will see) is upon us. We are talking about the World Leather Contest and its Italian finalists. The 23 students selected from a panel of professors and experts, are preparing their prototypes. These items will find their celebration on the social networks (Instagram and Facebook) of UNIC – Italian Tanneries (association part of Confindustria Moda) and Lineapelle’s. It’s your job then, to not miss any of the posts and stories from today (May 19, 2021) till Wednesday, July 7th.

The finalists of World Leather Contest

The 23 students selected from a panel of professors and experts have been given the necessary leather to create their creative prototypes. Such creations will be posted, day after day, on the social media pages of UNIC and Lineapelle. The in-progress exhibit will show all the phases of the creation process by students. These will then be judged through a dual voting channel. One will be online, by popular vote, while the other votes will be casted by a jury of experts. A few Italian schools were involved: Istituto Marangoni Milano Fashion (Master in Fashion Design Womenswear e Fashion Design Menswear), Polimoda Firenze (Undergraduate in Leather Technology), Accademia Costume & Moda di Roma (Costume e Moda, I Livello). There will be 4 winners: apparel, leather goods, footwear and online.

The contest

World Leather Contest invites students to create “accessories and clothing items that are unique and innovative – explain the promoters -, using only leather or, alternatively, adding other natural materials”. The original idea came from LHCA (The Leather & Hide Council of America) and, on a global scale, it’s based on the concept “Real Leather. Stay Different”. The contest is promoted in Italy by UNIC – Italian tanneries and Lineapelle, with the objective of giving value to a unique material: Italian leather. The same contest is then promoted in the UK by Leather UK, in China by CLIA (China Leather Industry Association) and in Taiwan by TLIA (Taiwan Leather Industry Association).
