“In-depth research of the ancient craft technique of filigree combined with a contemporary and seductive design to create a sandal with a strong aesthetic impact”. This was the motivation given by contest “Un Talento per la Scarpa” when it awarded its 25th edition award to, 20-year-old Laura Bartolomeo from Avezzano (contest for young designers). The event was promoted by the Sammauroindustria association that brings together a number of companies in the San Mauro Pascoli district (CBR Tacstile, Pollini, Sergio Rossi) with the Cercal school, which coordinates the competition.
Prototyping
The collection of Laura Bartolomeo, a student in the Bellisario High School of Art (in the town in the province of L’Aquila), stood out from the fifty or so entries submitted on the “Back to creativity. Return to creative craftsmanship” prompt. Her work, a sandal called “Fili shoe”, will have the opportunity to be converted into a footwear prototype by one of the member companies, in addition to receiving a prize of 1,000 euro. Rounding out the podium were the second place ex-aequo for Federica Peternelj of Chieti (“A new interpretation of bobbin embroidery for a collection with vibrant tones, respecting the ancient craft technique on the one hand and developing the theme with 3D modeling on the other”, reads the motivation) and Michela Maldini of Cesena (“A new craft design that takes inspiration from multiple fine manufacturing processes for a heterogeneous collection”).
The first 25 years
“Twenty-five years is quite a milestone for a contest”, explains Serena Musolesi, Cercal’s director. “Its success is due to the high quality of the local shoe pattern. This year the podium is all-female in a competition that in 25 years has seen the success of 12 girls from all over the world”. The jury also singled out one school, Universidad La Salle Bajio of Leon Mexico, with this motivation: “The consistency and quality of the numerous projects submitted manifests an ongoing interest in the competition, the school and the San Mauro Pascoli shoe district”.
