Lamborghini expands its upholstery department: more machinery and employees

Lamborghini amplia il reparto selleria: più macchinari e addetti

Lamborghini expands its upholstery department and invests, not only in terms of size (from 1,400 to 2,600 square meters), but also in terms of the number of employees and machinery, which has doubled. Some of the machinery is new and dedicated to leather. This investment was necessary to accommodate a new production line dedicated to the car manufacturer’s latest models: Revuelto and Temerario.

Lamborghini expands its upholstery department

Automobili Lamborghini, a company belonging to Volkswagen Group through Audi, has inaugurated its new upholstery department at its Sant’Agata Bolognese plant. “We will go from 80 operators working on the Revuelto to over 170, who will work on the two models at maximum capacity: the average age is 36, with a prevalence of female workers”, Ranieri Niccoli, the company’s chief manufacturing officer, told Ansa.

He further expands on the sewing section, “where about 40 highly skilled people work, often coming from fashion schools or companies in the sector”. This upholstery department handcrafts the interiors of every Lamborghini car. The artisans satisfy the numerous customization requests of the Ad Personam program, chosen by over 94% of the luxury car manufacturer’s customers. The manager points out that discarded leather is then reused to produce leather goods, with production handled by the Cartiera cooperative. “Last year, we recovered two tons of leather and we only use water-based glues”, Niccoli pointed out.

New machinery

Alongside the expansion of the upholstery department’s floor space, the number of machines has been doubled and production flows optimized. According to the company, an automatic leather gluing system has been introduced for the first time, capable of adapting the amount of adhesive to the volume of material and reducing waste and emissions. Niccoli also told Il Resto del Carlino that the company has plans to expand in the near future: “We are in talks with the municipal administration, the metropolitan city, and the region to convert land we have purchased from agricultural to industrial use. We will be starting soon to take the first steps”.

The numbers

The Emilia-based brand closed 2024 with record performances: for the first time in its history, it exceeded €3 billion in turnover (€3.09 billion), up 16.2% compared to 2023. It delivered 10,687 cars. Conversely, in the first nine months of 2025, Lamborghini delivered 8,140 cars (-3.2%), with a turnover of €2.41 billion (-1%) and an operating profit of €592 million (-12.7%). “The figures remain among the highest in the sector and reflect sustained profitability and stable financial management”, the company commented.
