Leather in future fashion according to Marine Serre (and Jimmy Choo)

According to Marine Serre, leather is fundamental in the clothing of the future. The capsule collection that the young designer created for the e-tailer Mytheresa was released on Wednesday February 17. The collection includes several leather pieces, as well as shoes that were designed together with Jimmy Choo and produced in Italy. With this capsule, Serre offers her vision of future-wear.

According to Marine Serre

The collection created for Mytheresa consists of 28 pieces that offer the eco-futuristic vision of the brand. It means product functionality combined with a sustainable production process. It means “garments that meet our daily life needs” as the stylist underlines talking to Rivista Studio. There are several products made of lambskin from upcycling: a white vest in printed leather that matches a pair of trousers made of the same material and a baseball cap, white too.

Footwear with Jimmy Choo

The shoes, designed in collaboration with Jimmy Choo, adapt to the capsule’s activewear and comfort. Jimmy Choo x Marine Serre spring summer 2021 consists of six models, available in multiple colours. The starting point is Jimmy Choo’s Faro model (from 2000), reinterpreted by Marine Serre. Vogue published a double interview with Serre and Sandra Choi, artistic director of Jimmy Choo.

About the influence of sport in fashion, Choi says: “It brings new elements of innovation. The weight, the texture, and it is thanks to sports engineering that there is innovation. Jimmy Choo was perhaps one of the first brands to add additional padding to shoes. And sport had inspired us”. Speaking of the collab, Marine Serre focuses on high shoes, which have a 5-centimetre high heel, and allow the wearer to ride a bike and run.

“This is very important to me. Because if the heels are too high, you lose your balance”. The made in Italy collection is available globally in Jimmy Choo boutiques, on jimmychoo.com and exclusively on mytheresa.com.
