The streaming debut of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons duo

The streaming debut of the creative duo composed of Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons is already a success. Prada’s Spring/Summer 2021 collection, presented on digital edition during the Milan Fashion Week, did not let anybody down. “We have just started working together and everything turns out to be rather natural and simple – emphasized both creative designers in the end during the live streaming show –. There is a lot to share. We can feel more energy in what we are up to: when two people agree on a design, such concept gets stronger and turns more reliable”.

The streaming debut

“We want to be free to set a new interpretation of our own styles, we do not just want to put together two standpoints”. The partnership between Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons is a dialogue in progress. Each of them provides an essential contribution yet sticking faithfully to Prada’s traditional core. Such fashion show clearly evidenced it as they presented a collection in the name of bon ton elegance, though enriched with several innovative factors. “Our fashion show focuses on simplicity, on dresses. It recalls a dialogue between technology and bodies – pointed out Miuccia Prada –. During the runway show, somehow women dance with technology”.

The runway show event

Presenting wide skirts (Miuccia Prada loves them a great deal) and large pois miming holes on sweaters (Simons’ distinguishing feature). The logo by Prada stands out in foreground on tops and accessories placed on metal triangles. The fashion designer’s over shapes are held on breast by a gesture, namely a “wrap”, which reminds of Miuccia’s typical body language. Among accessories, they presented a new compact nylon rucksack along with day handbags made from coloured leather and sling back bi-coloured shoes, with slim toes and low heels. As regards leather bags, they are both hand and shoulder. Nylon accessories are well inserted into the items of clothing:  they apply to soft shawls, around shoulders, and skirts wrapping up belts.

A creative dialogue

Following the runway show, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons (in the pictures) had a live streaming conversation answering questions from the audience. “A fashion designer does his work well as long as he is connected to reality and people – remarked Miuccia –. It is a teamwork. We are supposed to build up such connection through what we read, we watch, we breathe. In other words, fashion must represent its own age, telling the present days and taking its role from society”. Prada highlighted some of the values they believe they cannot be replaced, such as sustainability and inclusivity: “We must celebrate and implement these concepts to improve every day”.

The uniform

Uniform is a key concept to both fashion designers. “We are not talking about army or police uniforms. We rather look at a metaphorical uniform – commented Raf Simons –. Each of us owns one. Something that makes you feel comfortable and has a specific meaning when you put it on. Yet, it is also timeless. Uniform is something rather personal and basic. It is the early sign of yourself”.
