Stop, Hedi Slimane also says so: mocassins are the new sneakers

Nobody moves: it might be true. From Paris’s men’s fashion shows, as the data published from footwearnews.com states, comes the proof of our doubt and hypothesis, to which we have dedicated the cover page of our first monthly 2019 edition of La Conceria (LINK): Is sneakers’ success almost over? The answer comes straight from Hedi Slimane, Celine’s creative director, who, at the just-over men fashion week in Paris, banned sneakers and brought sneakers on sneakers on the catwalk, in occasion of the Winter 2019/2020 show. And so, here comes the possible truth: moccasins are the new sneakers. Zebra-striped, leopard-skinned, with fringes, in crocodile leather, or plain leather adorned with gold chains, tasselled, or with buckles. Yet, always a moccasin. No sneakers to be seen, at most some Texan boots, biker boots and laced shoes.

The moral of the story: Paris has brought men’s fashion back to a crossroad between tailoring and streetwear, which is something that was also noticed at Pitti Uomo. moreover, Slimane wasn’t the only one putting moccasins under the spotlight. Virgil Abloh, creative director of Luis Vuitton Homme, and undisputed leader of streetwear fashion showcased (among many items), black moccasins with white socks, in tribute to Michael Jackson.
