A turning point for bags: the story of Tonino Pintus Lamberti

From real estate to leather goods entrepreneurship: the turning point is at Lineapelle. This is the story of Tonino Pintus Lamberti, who in Sassari founded the brand Mespecta (from the Latin “specta me”, Italian), specialized in handbags and customized items with exotic leathers.

From real estate

“I was a partner and CEO of a company in the real estate business. Fascinated by the world of fashion, in 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I had the idea of investing in the sector leapt into my head”, Tonino Pintus Lamberti told us. “So I visited Lineapelle and was fascinated by exotic leathers. From this experience came the wish to start developing products using such precious leathers. I also thought that by using these hides, there would be virtually zero waste in production”.

First steps

The young man revealed to us that he initially turned to outside laboratories to start production. But with minimal quantities and a new company, the door was slammed in his face. Pintus Lamberti didn’t give up and decided to do it himself, starting in-house production. Today the company has five employees who handcraft products, from bags to belts to on-demand and customized items. “How did I source the artisans? I trained them internally. As of today I spend a lot of time with them because the artisan wants to feel the proximity of the entrepreneur”, says Tonino Pintus Lamberti.

The adventure

“Even the market was hesitant at first, because the uniqueness of the brand’s products displaced retailers. Now, over time, customers are beginning to respond and appreciate what we are doing: we are growing, first in Italy and now abroad”, says the Sardinian entrepreneur. Bags and belts have slowly been joined by small leather goods, cases, covers and pet leashes. “For the future, I want to develop Mespecta by focusing on our ability to make any kind of product and meet the customization requests that customers ask us for, from fashion to design”, the entrepreneur concludes.
