YOOX saves 70 jobs: agreement signed with government and unions

The dispute that had rocked e-commerce giant YOOX in recent months has ended with a deal that reshapes the company’s employment future. After weeks of intense negotiations, the company has withdrawn the collective dismissal procedure that would have affected 211 employees. Thanks to the agreement reached with the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy and the unions, the number of structural redundancies has been reduced to 145, for whom social safety nets and severance incentives are planned. Minister Adolfo Urso described the outcome as “a victory for workers”. YOOX saved 70 jobs.

The procedure had already been halted at the beginning of October, but only with the signing of the agreement was the process definitively concluded. YOOX’s announcement last September, which declared 211 of its 1,091 employees in Italy redundant, sparked union protests, especially at its Bologna and Milan offices. The intervention of Mimit made it possible to reduce the number of workers involved by about 70, paving the way for non-traumatic solutions.

“A victory that is the result of months of constant commitment alongside the social partners”, Urso emphasized, noting how the ministry’s method, based on genuine dialogue and teamwork, represents the way to revive the industry and ensure job protection (source: Il Sole 24 Ore). The new agreement will now be submitted for evaluation by the employees, who will be asked to express their opinion on the path drawn.

The group’s position

In the official statement, LuxExperience, owner of the brand, emphasized how “the agreement reflects the Group’s strong commitment to finding shared and responsible solutions, minimizing social impact”. “The Group”, the statement continues, “thanks all parties involved for their collaboration, which has made it possible to reach a balanced agreement that protects people and supports a return to solid growth in its activities. LuxExperience also confirms its commitment to strengthening its presence in Italy, which continues to represent a strategic and long-term operational hub for the entire Group”. Yoox appears to still want to play a key role as an employer in the country, with positive employment effects in the medium to long term.
