All that is needed to know about PEF: The International Conference at Linepelle95 to understand where the leather industry is at

Premise (taken from the introduction to the event that this news is about: “Companies that have been wanting to commercialize a product as ‘green’ have found themselves stuck with methods, initiatives, and tools that were often partisan, inefficient and non-transparent. This situation has brought confusion among both operators and customers, becoming an obstacle for the commercialization of products on the European market”. Topic: the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF), and the specific category rules for the different sectors of the industry, the Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR). This topic will be discussed, in depth, at LIneapelle95, on September 26th (from 2:00pm, Lem Ponte dei Mari, side pav. 22, all can participate for free). It will be discussed within the Conferenza Internazionale (International Conference) named: “European-made footprint: a new challenge for the leather and fashion industry supply chains”, organized by UNIC – Concerie Italiane, Cotance, and CNR, in collaboration with the European Commission. “The goal of the event is to showcase the achievements of the leather sector in this field, also showing the future outlooks in terms of certifications and policies, at a national and European level, while analyzing the potential work that can be done with tools that already exist on the market. The European Commission has launched the Single Market for Green Products initiative in response to this problematic situation, which has included the direct participation of the European tanning segment. The initiative has been launched to answer the industry’s need to establish a single methodology to evaluate the environmental impact of a product”. Beside from the organizers, other entities will have a voice at the event, including: MIP Politecnico di Milano, Scuola Superiore S. Anna, Cycleco, and ICEC. Following the event, a “round-table session with client brands, tanneries, chemicals’ suppliers and technology suppliers” has been organized.
