What's new at Chanel's Métiers d'art, starting with the venue

It starts with a big break with the past: the location will be Florence and the month will be June. On Tuesday, June 7th, 2022, Chanel’s Métiers d’art fashion show will take place in Florence. Why did they choose the Tuscan capital? There are historical reasons. The brand has a strong link with Italy, where there are companies that are part of the supply chain: “Fashion artisans, shoe makers, leather goods makers, tanneries or even yarn manufacturers, who put their expertise at the service of creation”.

Seven years on

“Almost seven years after Chanel’s 2015/16 Métiers d’art in the legendary Cinecittà studios in Rome, this new show reaffirms our close ties with Italy,” says the fashion house. This main novelties of the show that will take place in Florence are two. The date: Chanel usually organises the Métiers d’art in December, but this time opts for June. The venue: it will be the Métiers d’art outside of France for Virginie Viard since she became creative director of the brand in February 2019.

Artistic craftsmanship

“Artistic craftsmanship has its roots in the history of Florence, whose cultural heritage and ancestral know-how continue to this day,” reads Chanel’s statement. “This relationship initiated by Gabrielle Chanel continues, in particular thanks to the Italian manufactures that the Maison has acquired”. These include Ballin shoe factory and Gaiera Giovanni tannery, as well as Samanta tannery.
