Said and done: Florence takes leather goods’ makers Effebi and A.L.B.A.

Said and done. As announced to La Conceria last March 27th, Gruppo Florence made its entrance in the leather goods industry. In other words, the group controlled by Permira acquired both Effebi of Scandicci and A.L.B.A. of Calenzano. Additionally, ABC Ricami based in Pistoia also joined in. These additions bring the number of entities of the group led by Attila Kiss to 26.

Francesco Trapani, president of Gruppo Florence, “Italy confirmed itself as fertile for craftsmanship and manufacturing capabilities, and the entities now part of us are proof of that”. (Tuscan) excellence allowing the group to enter the leather goods’ segment. Effebi, company based in the 50s by Asteno Bongini and today managed by the Lotti family, employs over 70 people and manufactures 190,000 products a year. Effebi designs, develops and manufactures “all types of handbags for international luxury brands”, reads a note.

A.L.B.A.

Company specialized in small leather goods, A.L.B.A., was founded in 1935 by Orlando Cocchi in the heart of Florence. Then the company moved to Calenzano. It currently has about 70 employees and operates inside a 2,000 square meters site. The plan is to widen the site by another 2,000 square meters dedicated to cutting, production and a relax area for employees. The entrepreneurial families will remain at the head of the businesses and become shareholders of Florence, re-investing part of the capital received from the sale of the company.
