At Pitti Uomo, sneaker non-specialized agents do believe that new footwear models, more “formal”, will soon get more popular. According to Virgil Abloh, a street-wear predictor, “their seasons are numbered”. Yet, during the London Fashion Week (scheduled on January 4-6), chunky sneakers have been a smash hit, both along the runways and by the public participating in the fashion shows.
Lots and lots of them in London
In London, sneakers have been playing a leading role, as usual. A few prestigious co-lab supported them as well. For the records, Hummel, a Danish brand, worked together with British designer Astrid Andersen to provide customers with “new training shoes”, which take inspiration from handball. Likewise, young fashion designer Nicholas Daley has given a new interpretation of the Superstar leather model, made by Adidas. More specifically, he added some small studs and adorned shoelaces with goldthread coloured charms. Designer Eastwood Danso has reinterpreted the Pro Leather model, by Converse, which dates back to 1976, originally worn by basket players. The designer has rebuilt it by using a leather lug sole; the shoe upper is a cap you may tighten up or loosen depending on your needs. However, chunky sneakers have been a smash hit especially when guests have put them on. Several fashion magazines have been selecting and presenting the best and most daring ones. “As regards sneakers – reported Trnds news – Nike was, once again, the brand they most wore at the exhibition”.
