France and leather goods: Maroquinerie Thomas contractor to open a new factory, while Longchamp inaugurate their sixth plant

Aiming to enhance their expansion, they are about to set a million worth investment. Maroquinerie Thomas, a French leather group specialized in high-end leather goods outsourcing, announced they are going to open soon a new manufacturing factory located in Arras. The operation is based on a 6-million-euro investment, which will supposedly create over 250 new jobs, 80 a year, in four years. At the end of 2017, the overall revenues of the group, which currently employs 1,300 workers, amounted to 99,5 million euros. The new manufacturing site, which will extend across 3,000 square metres, is going to be placed in the Actiparc area, which has been already hosting 31 more companies, which extend across 170,000 square metres and employ, at present, 1,500 workers. A few months ago, prior to the investment in Arras, the group bought out Tuscan B&G. In 2016, Thomas, who works for Louis Vuitton and Chanel, had bought 35% of the Tuscan leather goods company, which was eventually acquired last June. In the meantime, Parisian Longchamp brand inaugurated their sixth manufacturing plant, based in France. It is placed in Pouzauges, in the region of Vandea, and it currently employs 70 workers. Chief executive officer Jean Cassegrain announced, while talking to local media, they are planning to hire 100 more employees in the next two years. As pointed out by the company’s top managers, the project aims to replace some of the workers currently employed, there are 3,200 of them, who are about to retire, while enhancing, as well, the expansion of the brand’s turnover, which is reportedly estimated to amount, at present, to 500/600 million euros.
