Farewell to Switzerland: Kering closes its logistics’ center, while Gucci the outlet

After 30 years, Kering says goodbye to Switzerland. The French luxury conglomerate is abandoning logistics in Ticino, with the shut-down of the LGL company in Sant’Antonino following the divestment of LGI planned by 2026. Not only that: Gucci, Kering’s flagship brand, will close the outlet that’s been open since 1995 in Fox Town in Mendrisio on September 15.

Farewell to Switzerland

The Luxury Goods Logistics (LGL) company, which is part of Kering, was dissolved on July 16 by the General Assembly. This decision marks Kering’s final farewell to Switzerland. Last April, Luxury Goods International (LGI), another logistics company traceable to Kering (present in Cadempino since 1997) under the name Gucci SA, had announced the dismissal of its last 120 employees. Business will gradually cease operations in the coming year.

Story of a farewell announced

In December 2024, Kering sold the Bioggio logistics facility used by LGL. As Corriere del Ticino points out, logistics was concentrated in Sant’Antonino where LGL operated. Then GXO, a company outside the Kering perimeter, had taken over the business several weeks ago, through which it will manage one of Zalando’s Return Centers. The gradual dismantling of logistics activities had been announced in 2018, with the relocation and expansion of the Italian hub in Trecate (Novara). With the dissolution of LGL and the gradual weakening of LGI, Kering’s long Ticino chapter thus comes to an end.

Gucci closes in Fox Town

Gucci’s outlet at Fox Town in Mendrisio, however, hadn’t been a topic of conversation before. The brand was one of 45 to have opened the outlet in 1995, when the first factory store in Southern Europe opened. Now, 30 years later, Gucci joins Valentino, Saint Laurent, Benetton, Jill Sander, Ermanno Scervino, Adidas, and Thun, who have removed their sign from Fox Town (source Ticino News).
