The presentation involved Francois Paulus, managing director of Kering, and Sorin Ciocan, head of the group’s supply chain and logistics operations. Meanwhile in France, Richard Cawston of Xpo participated in the presentation, as the company will be responsible for the management of the area and warehouse workers. The completion of the phase 1 work included the construction of 60,000 square meters. Once finished, the site will have a total surface of 162,000 square meters, equal to about 22 rugby fields. The site will combine “technology and innovative automation, scalability, sustainable progress and modern functionalities, to provide employee benefits”, explains Kering in a note. The second part of construction has already begun and the remaining 160,000 square meters’ area should be operational “by the end of the 2nd quarter of 2021”. Fast and green warehouse
Kering’s new site will manage the shipment of 80 million items a year, with a stocking capacity of 20 million items. The group believes they will be able to cut delivery times by 50% thanks to the capacity. “Trecate plant will have one of Europe’s largest rooftop solar systems, with its photovoltaic panels providing a total of 12.7 MWp on completion of the building, saving an estimated 7,500 tons CO2 a year. This site will also be the first industrial complex in Italy to produce more energy than it consumes. Excess electricity will be fed into Italy’s power distribution grid, for use at Kering stores and corporate offices in the country”, reads the note.
“We are transforming our worldwide logistics network in Europe, America and Asia to become fully omnichannel, to markedly increase the speed of deliveries to the benefits of our Houses and their clients. This brand new facility is another testament to Kering’s commitment to Italy: the Group is continuing to invest in the country, not only in terms of its artisanal and managerial capabilities, but also its logistics competences and know-how”. Beside from the above topic, Mr. Palus also spoke with Il Sole 24Ore about the fact that “this year, in the Tuscan site of Cerreto Guidi, the manufacturing site of Balenciaga will open, while between 2022 and 2023 the Atelier Maroquinerie of Saint Laurent will open in Scandicci.
