Watching this video, we were immediately reminded of the slogan of the last edition of Lineapelle: Make Tomorrow Bloom. It was a matter of an instant before we lost ourselves in the thrilling wonder of watching how Maison Dior made what its creative director, Maria Grazia Chiuri, called “one of my favourite pieces in the collection”. The latest, presented at Paris Fashion Week and covering aurumn/winter 2023-2024, presented yet another of Dior’s tributes to craftsmanship. The highlight of this tribute, a leather declination “of the iconic Miss Dior dress”.

Let’s say there is little to tell. You only have to watch this video and listen to the voice-over of the person who made and sewed the leather flowers of the skirt created by Maria Grazia Chiuri: you will be mesmerised. Yes, because in addition to admiration, there is an awareness of what can be achieved with leather.

 

 

Handcrafted emotions in leather

It was Maria Grazia Chiuri herself who shared this video on her Instagram profile. It demonstrates not only her creative and material sensibility, but also what the New York Times wrote about the Dior fashion show in Paris last week. For the US paper, the piece that helps understand craftsmanship according to Chiuri is “a spectacular leather skirt punctuated by an entire garden of three-dimensional leather flowers”.
