Cannes / 2: 18 meters of golden leather for the former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The idea of Lebanese designer Jean-Louis Sabaji was to make Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shine as “a goddess of ancient Greece”. To do so he chose leather. The Indian actress, model and film producer, former Miss World, walked the red carpet of the Cannes Film Festival with a “shimmering” dress made of golden and iridescent reptile printed leather. A mermaid-shaped dress embellished with a long train with six tails. A unique piece that required 200 hours of work by the best craftsmen of the Jean-Louis Sabaji atelier. The dress was “made from 18 meters of delicate laminated leather, the craftsmen did not have to take care of the usual silk or chiffon, therefore, manipulating the train in 6 layers and assembling the cuts: the whole team of seamstresses had to work together on this unique dress” Sabaji explained to Vogue Arabia. The Lebanese couturier for this creation was inspired by the “power of female gods in ancient Greek mythology”. Ms. Rai Bachchan walking on the red carpet shone “like a goddess, with the six layers of train that followed her as a symbol of completeness and beauty”.
