Cannes / 1: this year leather won the Golden Palm. Here is why

The climate, not exactly a spring one, may have helped a little, but this year the Cannes Film Festival was more than ever characterised by leather outfits. Many celebrities have chosen accessories, coats, but above all, leather dresses.
Supermodel Winnie Harlow (centre in the image) wore a dress by Ralph & Russo for the premier of “Oh Mercy!” with the outline of a crocodile, black and green stones and sequins applied on a long transparent black dress, at her waist a black leather belt with a crocodile print.
A high brown leather belt on peach-coloured sequin dress for the red carpet of Amber Heard, actress and discussed Johnny Depp’s ex-wife.
A sexy corset, high-waisted trousers and multicoloured leather jacket for French actress Frederique Bel (left).
Leather shorts for the soirée with a total black outfit by Yves Saint Laurent for dark lady Charlotte Gainsbourg, who had chosen leather also for the more casual look worn when she arrived in Cannes, with a leather jacket and ankle boot paired with jeans.
Elle Fanning was photographed outside the gate with a set of Louis Vuitton Monogram leather bags personalised with the initials E.F. and a Chanel mini-pouch in red leather at her waist.
Lea Seydoux wore a high-waisted leather mini-skirt for the presentation of the film “Roubaix, une lumiere”; while fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni (right) has shown one more time her love for black leather jacket giving a rock touch to her red carpet look by Philosophy by Lorenzo Serafini.
