Italian Leather: exports do well in the first 9 months of 2017. “A change of direction of great importance”, says UNIC

“Total Italian exports of tanned leather, based on the data available till now for the year 2017 (first 9 months), estimates growth of 1% in value, and (% in volume”. Good news, that, if confirmed, will “Interrupt the slightly negative trend of Italian exports that characterized the 2 previous years”. UNIC (Italian National Tanners Association) stated the above written phrase, emphasizing the fact that “the change in direction is of paramount importance, since contributions from foreign markets are even higher than previous year, and represents 75% of the total: going back 25 years, the percentage was a mere 35%”. Going deeper: China grows once again, after 2 stagnant years (+7%), while the EU, expect for France (+1%) doesn’t perform well. In the green area: “United Kingdom (+7%) and Vietnam (+14%), while exports towards the United States remain about the same, after 7 years of continuous increases”. The Italian leather industry confirms its leadership, which is “built on quality, technological innovation, design research, and sustainability – says UNIC -. All factors that show the total value of production, as well as the commercial weight of Italian tanneries at an international level. Both of these are in first place in the European ranking and in the world’s ranking for exports, with the products reaching over 125 countries every year”.
