Scottish Leather Group: 7 years and 14 million for the new tannery

Scottish Leather Group has invested 14 million pounds to build a new tannery. To open its production site, the group took 7 years and defines the project as “historic”. The investment is “part of the continuous effort to increase quality, sustainability and traceability standards”. The new tannery is located in Bridge of Weir, near Paisley.

7 years and 14 million for the new tannery

Scottish Leather Group explained that the new tannery “establishes new industrial standards for the production of leather and is based on top-level sustainability results”. The goal is to create a “low impact production model”. Compared to the previous plant, the new tannery will reduce the consumption of energy and water by 82% and 42% respectively, said the group.

Now new hires

Scottish Leather Group, founded in 1965, already employs 750 people, and will now need to hire more. This activity, together with the retention of qualified workers, is a fundamental part making up the success of the tannery. The tanning group is a leading enterprise for the auto, aviation, train upholstery and luxury segments. His clients include Aston Martin, Jaguar, Land Rover and British Airways.

Objectives

“The new tannery signifies a change in step for productivity and environmental savings. This will help us reach our net zero target by 2024, but to also send zero waste to landfills always by the same year”, said Warren Bowden (Head of innovation and sustainability for Scottish Leather Group) to The Herald.
