France, Hermès confirm new leather goods factory in Auvergne

Coronavirus outbreak has hindered Hermès plans; it has not stopped them though. In fact, the fashion house has confirmed a new leather goods factory located in the Auvergne region, following the one they are due to open in the Ardennes by 2022. The company has announced they are planning to create one more manufacturing lab in the Auvergne region, therefore confirming some rumours which had been around for a few months.

A new leather goods factory in the Auvergne region

By opening a new manufacturing site Hermès will strengthen their bond with the Auvergne region. Here the fashion brand is currently running the Maroquinerie de Sayat. Still Hermès have not made public where the new plant is going to be located exactly: for sure, it will be based in the department of Puy-de-Dôme. As reported by usinenouvelle.com, in the next few weeks the fashion brand will select the location, out of three possible options.

“This project evidences we do not have to surrender during the present crisis times – commented Laurent Wauquiez, president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region while talking to the information portal –. We are ready to welcome today one of the most meaningful projects we have carried out in the last few years, in terms of new jobs”.

Recruitment

Despite CRV epidemic, whose outbreak took place in the last few months, the company kept working on educational training directed at around eighty prospective workers to be employed in the manufacturing site, based in the Ardennes, which is due to start running in 2022. Likewise, Hermès are planning to shortly provide new employees, who will actively work in the Puy-de-Dôme laboratory, with training induction as well.

“We are liaising with regional agency Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Entreprises to set up this new seminar – made public the fashion house in a press release –. Such project is going to enhance our partnership with the French recruitment agency (Pôle emploi) to hire local artisans”. Hermès will employ 250 workers in the first plant; likewise, they are going to take on 250 in the second factory as well. Training courses are due to start, for the first apprentice, in November 2020”.
