In a week it may already be law. The state of Gujarat has proposed the introduction of the death penalty for those who slaughter cows. Now, who is found to work the carcases of the animals sacred to the Hindus pay a fine which is equivalent to 700 Euros. According to Vijay Rupani, Governor of the State and belonging to the party and the Hindu ultranationalist Bharatiya Janata, this is not enough: “We want to make the most strict law.” Currently the experts, often Muslims or Dalits (members of the caste of untouchables), which collect the cows died of natural causes, they are marginalised and persecuted. Now even they risk their lives.
