Fendi and Versace have intertwined and mixed, to create The Swap. The initiative consists in an exchange of creative “favors” that translated into the Fendace logo. Donatella Versace drew a collection for Fendi, while Kim Jones one for Versace. Both are for the pre-fall collection of 2022 and will be on sale starting in May. The two collections were the main characters of the very reserved presentation that took place on Sunday, September 26th, inside a private event held at Versace in Milan. “Everybody is collaborating. But this is the most courageous thing we can do: a swap”, said Donatella Versace.
The Swap involves the production sides as well. Fendi manufactured Versace’s collection, while the latter that of Fendi. The idea for the project, says WWD, was first mentioned during a dinner at Donatella Versace’s house, during which Kim Jones, Silvia Venturini Fendi and Delfina Delettrez were all present. A friendly dinner that transformed into “something that has never been done before”, says Donatella Versace.
We all love each other
The two stylists found affinity in many areas, including production: “Fendi is very tied to craftsmanship, and the same is valid for Versace, given what I have seen in the brand’s archives”, commented Mr. Jones. He was also very impressed by how much quicker production was n Italy, compared to France. “There are two truly amazing brands working together, even though not owned by the same group. It has nothing to do with money: we all love each other”, concluded Jones to WWD. Both stylists rejected the idea that the project can be compared to that of Gucci-Balenciaga. And when asked whether they will follow this collection with additional ones, Mr. Jones answered “we don’t know, we will see how it goes”.
