2021 for the French leather chain and the year’s interesting topics

Promoting national production, difficulty in finding specialized workers and training. These are the interesting and shared topics of many segments in many countries. They are also the highest priority ones within the agenda of French leather chain, which closed a “staggering 2021”, thanks to raw hides’ exports (+44% on 2020) and leather goods’ sales (+30%). CNC (Conseil National du Cuir) published the data during the conference “Voeux Et Engagements 2022” (goals and activities 2022) that took place on January 25th.

The French leather chain is made of 12,800 companies, 133,000 workers and generates a yearly revenue of over 25 billion euro, 13 of which from exports. In 2021, export grew by 24% compared to 2020 and by 9% compared to 2019. In details: +44% for raw hides, +17% for tanning, +14% for footwear, and +30% for leather goods.

Leather and interesting topics

CNC showcases the great performance of luxury leather goods. Edgard Schaffhauser, CEO of Fédération Francaise de la Maroquinerie (FFM), pointed out that, to satisfy the increased demand for leather goods, companies opened new production units. Every year 3,000 jobs remain open, with companies struggling to find new employees. During the “Voeux Et Engagements 2022” conference, CNC listed its priority challenges. For example: promoting jobs and training and improve the competitivity level of companies via innovation and technology as well.
