For the DS-707 collection, DeSede combines leather and expert hands

Expert hands and leather. These are the two fundamental ingredients used by the Swiss DeSede to create the new collection of armchairs and sofas designed by Philippe Malouin. Comfortable shapes and enveloping curves that have engaged the craftsmen of the Klingnau workshop. From their skill comes the DS-707 leather collection.

The target

“DeSede was very willing to let me take the lead. It was great, because I had strong feelings about what we were working on: they listened to me”, Malouin explains to wallpaper.com. The goal might have seemed simple: to create an armchair that combines tradition and modernity, and which is also able to compose a modular system. The designer started from one of the most traditional materials that exist, leather, the workhorse of the Swiss furniture factory, born in 1962 just as a saddlery. From there, he gave free rein imagining it.

Expert hands and leather

As wallpaper.com further explains, the base of the DS-707 collection comes from a square piece of foam, folded in half and then in half again. The structure passes into the hands of DeSede artisans, who have the task of creating the magic. To wrap the shape designed by Moulin, they had to stretch and fold the leather (aniline, 5 millimetres thick) as is no longer the case nowadays. But their industry experience made a difference.

The result

“The DS-707 collection is the modern composition of handmade leather and contemporary design – says DeSede -. Fluid and soft transitions combine the postmodern era of Swiss furniture design with the clear and open structures that inspired Philippe Malouin. Available as a comfortable armchair or as a modular sofa that can be combined in infinite ways, the DS-707 is the visual perfection of form that gives each room a unique touch”.
